How to get started in BEAM

There are two ways to get started in BEAM.

1.You can purchase a BEAM kit from Solarbotics, preferably the Solar Speeder. Though somewhat expensive (20 US dollars), it will almost guarantee your success in gettting your first BEAM bot working. It teaches basic solder skills, identifies basic parts and gives you information on the Solar Engine circuit.

2. If you feel more confident or want to spend less, the may freeform a solar roller or symet. The tutorials on this site should help you out on how to build it and where and what parts to get. Though this option is a bit less expesive, it can be more tricky to construct. Also check out the section on where to get your parts if your going to go with this option. The parts for a solaroller will cost you about 10-15 dollars.

It is always a good idea to gather as much information on BEAM as possible before you start building. Remeber you can also join the BEAM email list for answers to your questions from experienced BEAM builders.
